Alberta reports 244 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, seven more deaths

Alberta reported 244 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, following 5,818 tests that were completed for a positivity rate of 4.1 per cent.

Across the province, there are 5,415 active cases, a decrease of 416 from Thursday.

There are 379 people hospitalized with COVID-19, a decrease of 32. Of those, 108 are in intensive care units, a decrease of 12.

Seven more deaths were reported on Friday, raising the provincial death toll to 2,243.

In the Edmonton zone, which includes the city of Edmonton and surrounding municipalities, there are 1,415 active cases of the virus. Of those, 1,084 are within the city.

As of end-of-day Thursday, 2,951,927 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, or 66,029 doses per 100,000 people. Of Albertans aged 12 and older, 65.3 per cent have received at least one dose, or 55.6 per cent of the total population in the province.

There are 466,269 Albertans, or 10.4 per cent of the total population, fully immunized with two doses.
