COVID-19: Hinshaw to provide latest numbers Thursday afternoon

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health will on Thursday afternoon provide the latest update on COVID-19 in the province.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, is set to address media at 3:30 p.m.

In the regular update Wednesday afternoon, Alberta reported 645 new cases of COVID-19. Across the province, there were 8,733 active COVID-19 cases, a decrease of 534 from Tuesday.

In the Edmonton Zone, which includes the city of Edmonton and surrounding municipalities, there were 2,025 active cases, a decrease of 141. The city of Edmonton had 1,215 active cases, a decrease of 53.

There were on Wednesday 810 Albertans hospitalized with the virus, a decrease of 26. Of those, 184 were in intensive care units, an increase of one.

Ten more deaths raised the provincial death toll to 3,073.

As of end-of-day Tuesday, 86.8 per cent of Albertans aged 12 and older who are eligible for a COVID-19 have received at least one dose, while 79.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.
