A man was killed and a woman injured in a two-vehicle collision along Highway 16A Monday evening.
At about 6:45 p.m., a Capital West Traffic Sheriff officer came upon the collision on the highway near Range Road 20 in Parkland County, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday. The officer noted injures and a man trapped in one of the vehicles and radioed for help.
RCMP and Capital West Traffic Services members attended while Parkland County Fire and EMS were en-route, and Fortis Alberta was also called to help with fallen power lines at the collision site.
Officers at the scene attempted to provide first aid to the man trapped in one of the vehicles with severe visible injuries but were hindered by the downed power lines. Fortis Alberta was able to cut the power to the lines and the man was extricated, however, he died at the scene.
The lone woman occupying the other vehicle was transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Highway 16A was closed for a number of hours as RCMP investigated and police believe alcohol may be a factor in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
