Premier Jason Kenney will provide an update on Alberta’s reopening plan and COVID-19 vaccine rollout Friday afternoon.
As of end-of-day Wednesday, the province reached 69.9 per cent of eligible Albertans vaccinated with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Seventy per cent of Albertans aged 12 and older must be vaccinated with a first dose in order to trigger Stage 3 of the summer reopening plan.
Two weeks after Alberta reaches the 70 per cent threshold, all restrictions will be lifted, including the ban on indoor gatherings. Some restrictions will remain in place for continuing care facilities.
Meanwhile, Alberta reported 150 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. There are 242 people hospitalized with the virus and 58 of those are in intensive care units.
Kenney and Health Minister Tyler Shandro are scheduled to speak at 1 p.m.
More to come.
