Several thousand Edmontonians were left without power as outages affected areas of north Edmonton and Mill Woods Monday night, Epcor says.
The Epcor power outage map showed there were two outages around 9:45 p.m. The larger of the two had over 5,000 customers affected in northeast Edmonton. The outage was expected to last until around 11 p.m. but by 10 p.m. the alert was removed from the map.
A second outage was shown in the Mill Woods Town Centre neighbourhood with around 150 customers affected. The cause of the outage is under investigation and it is expected to be resolved by 11 p.m.
The outages came after much of Edmonton experienced a period of heavy rain Monday evening. Environment Canada states there is a risk of thunderstorms overnight. The government agency issuing a special weather alert for much of northern and central Alberta stating rain will turn into snow on Tuesday.
