COVID-19: Alberta reports 2,271 new active cases, 666 people in hospital

Alberta continues to see a high daily increase of COVID-19 cases with 2,271 reported on Wednesday.

This brings the total number of active cases to a new record high of 24,156. There are 666 people in hospital, with 146 of those in intensive care. Three additional deaths raise the death toll to 2,102. There were 903 new variant cases of concerns reported on Wednesday.

Variants make up less than 60 per cent of all cases.

Alberta currently has the highest active per-capita rate in Canada at 534 per 100,000.

This resulted in Premier Jason Kenney announcing some of the province’s strongest measures to date on Tuesday in order to curb the spread.
